Welcome to the next instalment of the club newsletter. Please remember there is no club session on Saturday the 27th of May due to the Bank Holiday.
Our Thursday evening sessions have restarted now the warmer weather is here, and these are idea for paddlers wanting to get out on the water and get some extra practice in for trips or star test awards.
2 Star training is available on the evenings of May 4, 11, 18, 25 June 8, 15, please speak to Kirst if you would like to join these sessions.
2 Star training is also taking place on Saturday mornings please speak to Christina about joining this group.
We have worked together with our friends at Nottingham Kayak Club to put on some taster sessions for those who might want to try racing kayaks, and go fast in a straight line. The sessions will be Jun 18th, July 22, Aug 19, Sept 16, Oct 14, Nov 18. Requirements for those going are:-
– the session would be £5 per person payable to the Notts Kayak club
– the session will be at the Kayak club, not at HPPCC
– any of our club members can attend the session without having to join the Kayak club, but any paddlers would need to complete their standard session form.
You don’t have to do all of the sessions, this is a chance to try a new discipline and try new boats and equipment. For more information please speak to Kirst.
Paddle in the Park
Paddle in the Park, arranged by the centre is returning on the 3rd and 4th of June. The good news is that paddling will be free all day on that day for those wanting to use the WW course and there will be lots of activities and workshops on during the two days. If you are a club coach and you would be free on that day, can you help run some activities with the centre? Please let Dawn or Ian know.
Are you a club member that could staff an information stand and give out information about the club to potential members, if so again please let Dawn or Ian know.
VHF Radio course
We have now organised 2 VHF radio courses for those interested in obtaining a VHF operators licence. Dates are 29th of July and 12th of August and there are still places available on both courses. Cost is £67.50 for the course and £60 for the exam fees. Please contact Kirst if you are interested so that we can confirm that both dates will run.
Standup paddle board discipline support module
The club has organised a Standup paddle board module on Thursday the 13th and Thursday the 27th of July. This is for anyone interested in coaching Standup paddle boarding. We have 8 places available and priority will be given to regular club coaches, and then opened up to club members. If interested please contact Dawn or Ian. If the course is very over subscribed we will try and arrange a second course.
Hold the date
Please put the 29th of June in your diary for the club AGM. We are just sourcing a venue at present and will get the details out to club members as soon as possible.

CHECK – check your kit for any live organisms after a session – especially damp areas such as under seats and air bags
CLEAN – clean your kit with tap water after a session and before moving onto another body of water
