August update from HPPCC

Dear Paddler


As Summer rolls on I hope that you have been enjoying great weather and water conditions.

There is some exciting news from the club in that we have just taken delivery of 5 new Stand up Paddle Boards and will be running club sessions on a Thursday night for club members to come and have a go, now we have trained up 8 of our club coaches to use them.

There are sessions available on 24th of August, 31st August, 7th September, 14th September, 21st September and 28th September.  All sessions are the normal £5 session fee for club members, but just to make sure you get a good session and we don’t have too many people turning up we are asking you to book via the web portal.  Go to the club website and click on trips and events and the list of dates will come up.

You can then book which ever sessions you want and pay on the night.

We are also running two Throwline safety courses for Parents, paddlers and anyone interesting in assisting with safety on Thursday 24th and Thursday the 31st of August.  Again please book through the club website portal, but these courses are FREE.

This will be of particular interest to anyone helping with event safety or rescuing paddlers from the course.

Please remember that there is NO session this Saturday due to the bank holiday.

On Saturday the 2nd and Sunday the 3rd of September the club is again hosting a Premier Division and Division 1 race.  There will be no course paddling or backchannels sessions on this Saturday.

This event is a showcase for the skills of our club in organising a national event and we are very proud of the fact that club members from all disciplines within the club support the running of this event.

Helpers are needed for:
Judge ( possibly)
Work in the timing office for 1 hour period (Computer inputting)
Bank safety
Jury
Making lunch for safety team etc and keeping the coffee going.
Putting course up Friday evening 
Taking course down on Sunday
Safety officer(shadow)
Race office (shadow)
Handing judges bibs out Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Collect bibs at end of races Saturday and Sunday.
Boat weighing Saturday and Sunday 
Sorting judging board for the weekend ( Shadowing) Friday evening Saturday evening.
First Aider (shadow)

Don’t worry if you don’t even know the rules for a slalom event, it doesn’t matter, as a club member you can still help in some way to make this event a huge success.

Help would be particularly appreciated from those who have done a White Water Safety and Rescue course to offer a few hours on either day to help with being on the bank with a throw line.  We particularly need help during the women C1 races as these have a much higher swimming potential.

River Severn Trip 24th September – Coach led suitable for those at roughly 2 star standard, 20km so a long touring trip, Pool Quay to Melverly.  Green flow moving water with some riffles and dodge the trees.  Contact Ian Scott on hppcc@btinternet.com for more information and to register your interest.
