Dear [first_name]
Welcome to the Easter newsletter, there is a lot of information in this email as we start moving towards the big start of our paddling season.
Thursday nights
Our Thursday night paddling sessions for recreational paddlers will resume after Easter on the 5th of April. These sessions are designed for paddlers who are able to select their own equipment, get on to the water unaccompanied and paddle without direct support. Coaching is available on a Thursday night, but as all of the coaches are arriving from work, we can’t guarantee the time that they will manage to get to the club. These sessions are appropriate for people once they have been paddling for a few weeks, but are not suitable for absolute beginners as there won’t be a coach available at the very start of the session to supervise everyone.
The session is open from 6pm to 8pm, with coaching available from 6.30 to 8pm. The cost of the session including water access fees and coaching is £5 per session.
Coaching on the Backchannels will only be available if appropriate coaches are available, we hope to have coverage for this in the future, but it can’t be guaranteed at the current time.
The Thursday night sessions will run until the clocks go back in October.
Equipment use
Our annual club audit is due in the next two weeks so we would ask any paddler who has equipment on loan to ensure that this is returned to the club on the 7th of April so that it can be checked and counted. We would also ask all paddlers to look for club neoprene spray decks, as we bought 8 of these and now only have 4 left. Can you check to see that you don’t have one at home that has been taken home by mistake. An amnesty is in place for all kit to be returned please.
In order for us to keep a better track of club equipment there will be a new booking in and out form for equipment that is taken off site, so if you need to sign equipment out please contact a Trustee so that the new forms can be filled in.
Membership
Please note that our membership renewal system is through an online payment system, all renewals can be done through this system and this allows us to track the process and no one falls through the cracks. Therefore from the 1st of April you will only be able to pay in cash for your membership if this has been agreed in advance with a trustee. With over 350 members we have to have a system that is traceable to allow the treasurer and membership secretary to keep track of everyone.
Pool Sessions
A huge thank you to all who supported the pool sessions, a large number of coaches have supported these sessions and they have been well attended for the last 12 weeks.
Pool sessions have now finished for the summer, but if you still want to practice your rolling then contact Trevor as he is planning some Pool to Pond rolling sessions once the weather warms up a bit.

He will be able to discuss with you how to plan your progression, and work out an individual coaching programme for you so that you can start to work on areas of weakness. He can also help you to identify routes into the coaching scheme, or personal performance awards that can help you to improve your skills.
Booking isn’t required just turn up, get a coffee or drink from the Bar and have a chat with Ian.
Congratulations to the Slalom section
This weekend saw the Slalom section run another excellent race on behalf of British Canoeing, and there were some excellent performances from our club paddlers.
Many thanks to all of those who helped throughout the weekend and made the event such a success.
That’s about all for now.
Well there has been a huge amount of information in this newsletter, so have a great Easter and happy paddling.
Regards
Dawn Scott
