A very Happy New Year from HPPCC

Dear Paddler

Welcome to 2021 and we hope that we might actually all be able to go paddling at some point this year!  However, regrettably it won’t be just yet.

Due to most of the East Midlands going into Tier 4 it is not possible for us to restart club activities at present, in addition the WW Course and the Lagoon are closed.

During Tier 4 individual paddling is still possible for individuals or households, or for one person to meet with one other person outdoors for exercise.  This means that we are unable to run club sessions.

As such the compound will stay closed for the foreseeable future.

However, this doesn’t mean that we can’t be looking ahead to hopefully brighter days ahead.

Trip to the Lake District

Trevor Tarlton-Weatherall and David Guntrip are planning a trip to Keswick for the 25th and 26th of April, hoping that travel, holidays and paddling will be possible by then.

This will be a chance to explore the larger lakes such as Derwent Water and Ullswater, and for those interested there will be a chance to undertake the Open Water touring awards.  The Camping and Caravan site at Keswick is very popular and books up very quickly, so we are giving you plenty of notice for this trip.  However, if you don’t stay on that site, then you can launch from the public launch point and the groups will meet up at an agreed time.

It will be your responsibility to book your own accommodation, and also please check any refund conditions should lockdowns be imposed or for any reason the trip can’t go ahead.

Please contact David on [email protected] to find out more information or register your interest.  A formal booking process will be available later on.

Wye Weekend

We hope to bring back the Wye Weekend this year and have provisionally set a date of the 12th and 13th of June for this event.

Please save the date in your diary and a formal booking process will follow later.

Coaching, Leadership and Instructing qualifications.

Don’t forget that we launched access to a whole range of qualifications that the club will be running next year, and the instructors award is available to anyone aged 14 or over.  This is a great chance to start out on the coaching ladder, and gain qualifications that come in really handy for summer work if you are a junior paddler.

So take care, keep your spirits up and we hope to see you back out on the water as soon as possible.

Very best wishes for a safe, peaceful 2021 from all of the Trustees.

Regards
Dawn
