Final HPPCC update of the year

Dear [first-name]

Well it is the final email out of the year with some last minute reminders.

It has been a great year for paddling with lots of achievements for the club and for individual paddlers.  My thanks to all who have contributed to this success and have worked so hard to make the sessions happen for all of our paddlers.

Lets hope that Santa brings you all some lovely paddling goodies under the tree.

Christmas closure

The last open recreational session before Christmas will be this Saturday 15th December we will then start back on Saturday 12th January 2019.  However, some sections of the club may be carrying on longer so please check with individual coaches.

New year Paddle

This years’ new-year paddle will be held on Saturday 5th January 2019 paddling from Normanton on Soar to Trent Lock.  This paddle is approximately 12km long.  Starting from Soar Lane in Normanton on Soar (this is next to the Plough inn) and meeting at 0930. We will then need to do the shuttle which will take approx 50 minutes.  Paddlers will need to be of 2* standard, but don’t need to actually hold the award, if not sure please ask any of the coaches for advice. Boats will need to be collected before Christmas if you need to borrow one from the club as there will be no access between Christmas and New-Year.  If you want to come on this trip please email [email protected] for further information, and to let us know you are intending to come, this is so we can work out shuttles and car parking in advance of the trip.

Coaches Meeting for existing and potential coaches

We have organised a meeting of all coaches for Sunday 6th January 2019 starting at 1000 with the venue at British Canoeing Headquarters at HPP.  This is also open also to anyone who wants to become a coach or leader.  This is so we can discuss Whitewater progression, the new personal performance awards and the coaching system for the coming year.  It will also enable us to sort out coaches/Leaders training needs and support you to gain any additional qualifications that you might want.

It will also make sure that all coaches are aware of the club’s systems and new operating procedures, this is important for our relationship with the centre.  Please do make an effort to attend.  We expect the meeting to last until about 1.30pm and a light lunch will be provided, we will provide tea and coffee.  We would like anyone attending to please let us know on [email protected]  so that we can arrange catering and refreshments.

Please remember that if you are interested in becoming a Coach, Paddlesport Instructor or Paddlesport Leader then fill out the form at the link here: so that we know what you are interested in and so that we can plan for courses to be delivered.

Open Pool sessions

The Open Pool sessions start on Saturday the 12th of January at the Ken Martin Swimming Pool, Hucknall Ln, Nottingham NG6 8AP.  Paddlers need to arrive at the pool for 3.30pm and access to the water will be at 3.45pm.  Out of the Water at 5pm.  Cost of the session is £6.00 per person.  Please bring the correct money if possible to make life easy for those taking the money.

Please note that there is a maximum number of 50 people (including coaches) in the pool for any session.  We regret that we will need to turn any paddlers away over that number, as the pool set the safety numbers that can be managed by the lifeguard.

Please note you can’t bring your own boats, and T shirts should be worn during the sessions in addition to your normal swim wear, or neoprene paddling wear.

So take care, wherever you paddle and whatever you do, and we look forward to seeing you out on the water shortly.

Happy Christmas from Dawn and all of the club Trustees.
