April Updates

Dear Paddler

A quick update on things that are happening shortly.

Foundation Safety and Rescue
Trevor Tarlton-Weatherall is running a Foundation Safety and Rescue Course on the 11th of May for the club which will be available to book within the next 2 weeks on the website.  This course is suitable for those at 2 star or Paddle Explore award standard, or those wanting to undertake the Paddle explore award.

This course is designed to support paddlers to think about safety and to learn effective rescue techniques on flat or slow moving water.
You will learn how to rescue Kayaks, Canoes, Sit on Tops and Stand up Paddleboards.  The course is ideal for those wanting to move to becoming an independent paddler, and will give you the confidence to rescue yourself or others.

This course is a pre-requirement for anyone wanting to undertake a Paddlesport Instructor award, and is ideal for those thinking about doing the Paddlesport Leader award.

Keep your eye on the club events page for the bookings for this to go live.  Times 9am to 5pm – cost £35.

Paddle in the Park

Paddle in the Park will be back at the National Watersports Centre on the 1st and 2nd of June.  This is a great weekend with lots going on, there will be workshops, introduction sessions, workshops on the white water course and lots of boats to try.  Due to the number of activities on at the centre this day, there will be no standard club session, but come along and try all of the paddling activities that are available.

Tickets for the various workshops go on sale this Friday – some of the workshops will be very popular so you will need to book quickly.

Paddle in the Park is back this June and full of paddling activities for everyone!

Paddle in the park passes will be available from Friday 12th April! More details will be available soon but to stay in the loop head to our event page on Facebook or the What’s On page of our website.

New Regional Website page available

The East Midlands Regional Development page is now available as part of the British Canoeing website.  Book mark the page and keep checking for events, tours and workshops that are happening in the East Midlands.

Coming soon is an evening at the Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre on the 14th of May which looks at weir safety and helps you to identify if a weir is safe to run.

Also a date for your diary is a weekend opportunity for those who are aspirant coaches.  31st Aug/1st September will be the second Coaching support weekend, which is open to coaches who have undertaken their Core, or Discipline specific training to support them on their journey to their coaching award.

Paddlers are also able to book on to this day to gain a days coaching, where they can be coached by the aspirant coaches.  There will also be some workshops focused on female paddlers.

Keep the dates free in your diary and take advantages of all of the activities that are happening in the Region.
