May update

Dear Paddler

So Easter and the first May weekend have passed us by and finally we are seeing some rain to top up those really low river levels.

In the club things move along and we are preparing a set of courses for all levels on a Thursday night.

The first of these is an Explore training set of sessions run by Kirst starting next Thursday for 4 weeks.  These will be at the normal club session time of 6.15 – 8pm.  There are only 6 spaces available and due to the shortage of time please email Kirst on [email protected] if you would like to attend.  We are not taking money up front for these sessions so the normal £5 session fee will apply.  At the end of the 4 weeks you will leave with a clear action plan as to what you need to do to achieve your Explore Award, having had 4 sessions of training.

Discover and Touring session dates will be announced shortly along with a Sheltered Water SUP training course.

We are also looking at a set of sessions on the White Water course, paying for a coach to come in and deliver these sessions.  More details to follow as soon as dates and prices are sorted.

Course Prices

There have been a number of issues recently with club members being charged different rates for accessing the course during club sessions.  The centre is looking into why this is happening but as a reminder please ensure that you show your membership card when you pay for casual paddling sessions.  Parents of Juniors paying for them should stress that they are Juniors.

As a guide the prices that should be paid are:

Tuesdays after 6 pm Adults £8, Juniors £6
Thursdays after 6 pm Adults £8 Juniors £6
Saturdays between 10am and 12noon Adults £8 Juniors £6

Please note that those purchasing discounted tickets on a Saturday morning at the club rate, can continue to paddle all day on this ticket without paying any further payment.

Events at the centre
This weekend is the Centre Open weekend with a lot of activities taking place, therefore parking will probably be at a premium, and the lagoon will be busy, our sessions will concentrate on using the river, and the course if coaches are available.  There are still 2 places on our Foundation Safety and Rescue course at the weekend if you would like a space.

May the 25th and 26th is an exclusive WW course booking, but there is no session that weekend due to the Bank Holiday.

June the 1st and 2nd is Paddle in the Park – come along and paddle at very cheap rates on the WW course, try new boats or sign up for a workshop.  Go to the paddle in the park website for more information

On June the 9th the Warrior Assault event is happening,  it shouldn’t affect the club session but the car park is likely to be very busy.

Hopefully over the next few months there will be something for everyone to get involved in, so happy paddling.
