Dear Paddler
Welcome to the June update from HPPCC and we are delighted that we have some exciting opportunities coming your way.
Firstly this is the last call for anyone wanting to book for the Wye weekend, bookings close on the 10th of June so that we can order the right number of pitches. Please go to the events page on the web site and book so that we can sort your pitch out for you.
WW Training
Next is a great opportunity for WW paddlers to get some intensive time on the course with support.
4 of our club padders and coaches will be undertaking an assessment to enable them to lead paddlers on the course, and we are looking for students to support this day.
The date is Tuesday the 6th of August. There are some key criteria, you need to be available all day, your paddling should mean that you can paddle on the main course, but we are not looking for experts. In fact if you were to take a couple of swims during the day then you would allow the coaches to be able to demonstrate their rescue skills! Paddlers within the first few months of paddling on the course or so; and wanting to gain more confidence would be ideal.
There is no cost for this opportunity other than the cost of your WW pass for the day. Please contact Andy Steel for more information or to book a place – [email protected]
Introduction to Raft racing
In conjunction with national governing bodies to encourage more women into sport and to offer a supportive women only environment Beth Kirby is organising a Women’s introduction to Raft racing which will be on the Weekend of the 11/12th of August. Details will shortly be on the website, but this is aimed at novice rafters and the coaching team will be all women. Paddlers must be over 18 to attend. This opportunity will also be opened up to non club members so make sure you book a place quickly. Tickets are available for training on both days, or on Saturday only. Club paddlers should choose the members only price from the events page on the website.
However, we haven’t forgotten about everyone else, so the event will be repeated on 14/15 September as an Open Introduction to Rafting. Again the event is open to over 18’s to attend and will again be opened up to non club members as well. Club members receive a discounted rate.
We are also looking to arrange an introduction to rafting for Junior paddlers aged 14-19 shortly as well.
Moving from the Back channels to the main course
We know that there are a number of paddlers who want to progress from the Back Channels to the main course and so Stuart Parnell will be delivering a series of sessions on behalf of the club on a Thursday evening. Dates are 20th June – 11th July.
This will be a very small focused group of paddlers with only 4 places available. If this proves very popular other dates will be made available.
The cost is between £32 – £60 depending on whether you have your own kit and a WW pass. Please see eventzillia on the website for the full pricing.
White Water Technical improvers sessions
Again we know that there are paddlers who want to improve their Technical paddling skills on the WW course so this course is for them. Again places will be limited to 4 paddlers, and these sessions will run for three weeks from 18th July – 1st August.
The cost is dependent on whether paddlers need to borrow kit and pay for WW fees. Please see eventzillia for the full pricing.

Core Coach Training
This is a British Canoeing Core Coach training course being run on the 28/29th of September at the club and open to club members and non club members. Club members will receive a significant discount and a further bursary will be available to those who have committed to coaching club sessions.
