May update from HPPCC

Dear Paddler

As you will be aware the Government released new guidance on Sunday which allowed the resumption of some activities from today.

I have attached a full statement from British Canoeing which is really clear about what paddlers can, and cannot do.

You will see from this that British Canoeing are really clear that clubs should not resume any club activity at present and as a Club HPPCC will be abiding by this decision.

However, the great news is that individuals can now go paddling with their own family members or one other person, but please do observe all of the social distancing regulations.

The NWSC is still closed and the car park gates are still locked so please don’t drive to the centre thinking that you can park and go paddling.  The club are in communication with the managing organisation and will let you know as soon as the car park opens, and then eventually when the centre re-opens.

Please also be aware that the WW course has been drained so paddling is not possible on the course and will not be available until the centre reopens.

Please carefully note the information from British Canoeing on insurance, you are covered if you are an individual member of British Canoeing, but the insurance in place for club activities will not apply when paddling during this time as it is not a club activity.  Membership of British Canoeing is very reasonable and also gives you a licence to paddle on most of the UK waterways.

Thursday night webinar

We have another one of our Thursday night Webinars planned for tomorrow night, with an appropriate break at 8pm for clapping for the NHS.

This was originally designed to cover the whole suite of leadership awards, however, much of the information from British Canoeing about their new leadership awards is embargoed until the 3rd of June when the announcements will be made.

Therefore tomorrow nights webinar will concentrate on the Paddlesport Leader Award, which is for running trips in Sheltered Water.

To join the webinar please go to

We hope that you will now be able to take the opportunity to get out paddling safely, and remember that paddling alone carries a considerably higher risk.

Take care and we look forward to seeing you virtually at one of our webinars.
