HPPCC update for June

Dear Paddler

We hope that you are all well and taking care in the difficult times in which we find ourselves.

As you will be aware since Monday, gatherings of up to 6 people are now permitted in the outdoors providing social distancing takes place.  This does mean that if you now want to go for a paddle with friends this is permitted, but you will need to consider carefully how to arrange this.

If you want, as members, to paddle with others then please do, and take all of the appropriate precautions.  Remember that rescue may not be easily at hand, and you will need to socially distance at all times, so please don’t share cars for the shuttle, share kit or carry other peoples kit.

The club trustees are meeting regularly online, to look at the situation and to plan for the future, but we need to follow the appropriate advice from British Canoeing.

If you are in one of our formal coaching squads, for slalom or rafting, then information will come out to you separately from the general club email newsletter.

We are not expecting the centre to reopen until July at the earliest and we have an online meeting with them in the pipeline to understand what restrictions will be in place when they do reopen.

It is important to stress that things won’t go back to “normal”, and we may be restricted on the numbers accessing the site and facilities for some time to come.  We will also have to look at how we can sanitise equipment, manage sessions and manage access to the compound.

It is really important that when we do reopen we have all of the appropriate safety measures in place, so please bear with us as we work these out, and ensure that all of the paddlers and the coaches can be safe.

As a club we intend to be as flexible as possible to provide services to our members, but at the moment we are looking to see what this looks like in a brave new world.

As a reminder we have a workshop this Thursday night which will look at the new British Canoeing Leadership qualifications which were announced today.
