As we come to the end of 2020 the Trustees want to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and New Year.
After a 2019 that saw paddling curtailed by really poor weather, we have been curtailed again this year by world-wide events out of our control.
We know that many of you have been affected by this years events, either through personal loss, family issues, or work problems. We hope that 2021 will offer the opportunity to get out and paddle, and to eventually get together again with friends and enjoy all that our wonderful rivers have to offer.
Whilst things might have been difficult the Trustees are working on plans for the future, and thinking ahead to when things might return to normal.
Our normal New-Year paddle can’t go ahead this year, but instead we are offering an opportunity to paddle off the mince pies on Saturday the 2nd of January.
The paddle will be from the club, and will start at 10am and return back by 1pm, so an hour longer than normal. This will allow for different groups to go at different speeds and hopefully paddle a bit further up the Trent than would normally be available on a Saturday morning.
Booking is needed through Eola but there will be no cost for this paddle. However, please note that it will only go ahead if:
- Nottingham and Nottinghamshire stay in Tier 3. It will be cancelled if it moves to Tier 4
- The river levels are below 2.2m on the gauge.
To check the river levels please go to https://flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/station/2102
This will show the current and predicted levels. Above 2.2m would be too difficult to paddle upstream against the flow.
Thanks to Trevor and David for arranging this paddle.
Again our normal club advice applies, please don’t travel into a Tier 3 area, even if it is from other Tier 3 areas.
We hope that paddling activities will get back to normal in the late spring and in anticipation of that we will be organising a number of training courses to get people trained as Instructors, Leaders and Coaches.
Attached is a full description of each of the courses that we will be running and the table below shows the course, the dates and the price.
It also shows the level of bursary that the club will offer to individuals who want to contribute back to the club.

So finally I just want to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and New-Year and hope that there are some paddling goodies under the Christmas tree this year.
Take care and stay safe.
Very best wishes
Chair of Trustees.
